An Uncertain Future

Inara on top of the world!I have  been babysitting my spunky little granddaughter this morning.  I’ve been watching her eyes sparkle as she flits from one place to the next — each destination enthralling her little heart.  I see the expectation of joy in her eyes.  The sense of discovery is strong in this little one.  She tackles each unsteady step with a sense of humor tainted with a touch of attitude.  I see the blank slate of her young life before me and wonder what the world will do to imprint its flawed and broken system upon her.

This pensive post comes on the tail of listening to the recent news….news that our President is weakening our military defenses by basically destroying them.  I have a hard time understanding how a man in such great power has such an inaccurate and unrealistic view of the fallen world around him, enough so to endanger the beautiful young eyes that sparkle before me.

I wonder about people who allow themselves to be mislead.  Easy believism rules their unrealistic hearts.  They see only what they want to be true instead of what is actually the truth.  World Peace?  God said it won’t happen.  Who are they listening to?

I see ignorance.   Expansive ignorance of this leader’s unwavering choice to eliminate the freedoms we have come to enj0y — freedoms my father, father-in-law, brothers-in-law, and future son-in-law have defended with their very lives. ; I am in awe of those who serve our country, fighting for freedom.

Inara and her dragonVery few things make me feel hopeless.  I am an eternal optimist  — but I have to admit, this one is taking its toll on me.   I don’t like what I am seeing in this leadership and those in the shadow of its wing.  I don’t like the arrogance and the presupposition that supposes they knows what is best for us, even when we vocally and loudly tell them otherwise.  I don’t like the disregard and disrespect that I see daily in this leader and his fellow “leaders.”

It is times like this that remind me that we can only turn to a Holy, Sovereign God.  We need to pray that the eyes of the people in our nation would not remain blinded to the truth of the world’s situation….that this is forever a fallen world until Jesus returns.

These words in Psalm 17 seem so appropriate  — on this day — at this time — at this very moment — and yet, they were written over 2000 years ago.  As for me, God, I shall behold your face in righteousness.

Psalm 17:7-15

Wondrously show your steadfast love, O Savior of those who seek refuge from their adversaries at your right hand.
Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings,
from the wicked who do me violence, my deadly enemies who surround me.
They close their hearts to pity; with their mouths they speak arrogantly.
They have now surrounded our steps; they set their eyes to cast us to the ground.
He is like a lion eager to tear, as a young lion lurking in ambush.
Arise, O LORD! Confront him, subdue him! Deliver my soul from the wicked by your sword,
from men by your hand, O LORD, from men of the world whose portion is in this life. You fill their womb with treasure; they are satisfied with children, and they leave their abundance to their infants.  As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness.

I’m skeptical about his motives. Or more specifically, I’m skeptical about the motives of the people who are driving his career. Because I assure you he didn’t come out of nowhere and rise to the top just based on his campaign for hope.

  2. Hey Steph
I rarely put political stuff on this blog because of its divisive nature — but I am in agreement with you. I think it just finally got to me….like a pot ready to boil over in frustration! I try to keep this blog for Compassion and theology – my two loves!
